VW Crafter / Man TGE MWB L2 H2 High Roof Panel Van Furniture
If you are interested please get in contact to arrange a visit or virtual tour of our demo van. We are based in West Yorkshire.
Designed and built originally for our own use. We are a family of four, with 2 young children. Our complete Crafter adventure build has the following features to meet our needs and we believe the versatility it offers will be great for many different types of intrepid adventurers.
Our conversion is designed to be adaptable and versatile in its operation. The interior can be reconfigured for different modes of operation be it a day van or an off-grid van for the weekend warrior making a dash for the beach, mountains or track day. Longer holidays are possible with extensive storage areas. The Transformer lounge can be converted from a four-berth fixed bed to a 2 berth with a garage area. The beds can be removed and turned into a bench seating area with u shaped bench ideal for day van use. The Transformer lounge bench or benches can be removed to make use of the rear load area within a couple of minutes to transport large loads and make use of the van as a van for carrying large loads and not just a motorhome. Underneath the bench seats can be used for storage with access hatches. There are also two top shelves providing a useful ledge ideal for storing bedding whilst in transit. This is where we store our Duvalay's and mattress rolled up and strapped down for transit.
The shower cubicle has a portable toilet that can easily be removed when using the shower or converted into a drying room. The shower cubicle is vented at the top with a Maxx vent and heated from below with a combi diesel and electric heater creating the perfect drying room for wetsuits, outdoor gear or mountain biking equipment. The shower cubical is a compact size with a real door allowing shelves to be added and converted into a large storage wardrobe for those longer-duration trips or when the shower is not required. You have to ask how often motorhome showers get used when camping on a paid site. We prefer the shower cubicle to be available as an optional extra when required. The toilet door also doubles as a privacy divider when opened.
When the Transformer lounge is configured for fixed bed mode there is a front dining area available with seating for 5 people. This dining area can also be converted into a fifth small berth if required (See concept images), the kitchen area has been designed for ease of use and off-grid operation. Under the driver's seat, there is a 230Ah lithium battery charged from solar, engine and shore power. There is a socket in the kitchen area fed from a 3kW inverter which we use for heating water with a kettle for tea and coffee, running an air fryer for cooking meals, and my wife's hair straighteners or hair dryer. Using an air fryer in the van is a total game changer and is now our primary method of cooking whilst using the IntrepidVan. We contemplated a microwave or a fixed gas oven, however after using the van we feel we made the right decisions also saving time, money and space not opting to fit these items. we are running a hybrid system of off-grid electricity plus a small disposable gas bottle should the electricity be unavailable or you just need to use gas for something. We still occasionally dig out the Ridge Monkey for a toasted sandwich. We think this hybrid cooking truly offers the best of both worlds for a versatile easy-to-use kitchen pod. The kitchen pod has four large handless drawers, a double overhead locker and a fold-out table for outdoor living.
Heating and hot water are provided by a combi diesel and electric heater housed under the rear passenger seat. Lighting is provided by integrated LED flush-mounted strip lights under lockers. There are also three touch-led lights on the ceiling. In the rear of the van, there is a Maxx fan for ventilation combined with cassette windows that can be left open in the rain to draw in air and provide double-glazed insulation in the winter. Integrated blinds and fly screens make it a cinch to get the van ready for nighttime. Water is supplied from a 109-litre onboard water tank allowing the IntrepidVan to be used in all seasons, reducing the risk of a frozen water tank.
The build has taken over twelve months to design, build and test developing many prototypes to produce the perfect IntrepidVan for our family. We are pleased to offer our IntrepidVan build as a complete furniture kit to get you on your adventures as soon as possible. We are able to consider bespoke work adapting the Intrepid van build to ensure it can meet your needs. Get in touch if you like this design and would like to achieve the same for your van build.
